Best GTA 6 Server Settings for High FPS and Low Ping

Every week someone posts a "config that doubled my FPS" on Reddit. Most of them are placebo. This guide covers the actual settings that move the needle, based on reproducible testing, not vibes.

Server-side settings

Tick rate

Set to 60 Hz. Don't touch it unless you're running a competitive PvP or racing league where 128 Hz is worth the CPU cost. Higher tick does not mean more FPS for players, it means more bandwidth and more server CPU for marginal input-response improvements.

Sync rate

Set to match tick rate. Mismatched sync and tick rates cause the weird "some players teleport" complaints.

Streaming distance

Lower streaming distance saves server CPU and network bandwidth. For freeroam with cars at speed, 500m is the floor. For RP in a walkable city, 300m works fine. Default is often 700m+ which is overkill.

OneSync / infinity mode

Enable OneSync for any server over 32 slots. This isn't optional at scale. OneSync Infinity for 128+ slots.

Client-recommended settings (for your players)

These go in your server README / Discord. You can't force them, but you can educate.

  • MSAA off (expensive, not necessary for most players)
  • Shadows medium instead of ultra
  • Reflection quality high, not ultra
  • Grass medium
  • Population density ~70%

Network-level

Pick a hosting region close to your core players. 30 ms ping feels great. 80 ms is playable. 120 ms is noticeably laggy in combat. 150+ ms is unplayable for anything competitive. Our server latency deep dive covers why.

Frequently Asked Questions

What server settings give the best GTA 6 FPS?

Lower entity streaming distance, sensible pedestrian density, reduced script tick frequency on non-critical loops. Specific numbers depend on your scripts, but the principle is budget what is in memory and what runs each tick.

Does server region affect ping?

Yes, it is the single biggest lever on player ping. Hosting where most of your players live cuts 30 to 80 ms off the average ping versus hosting on the wrong continent.

Can I lower ping without switching hosts?

Sometimes. Request a trace route from host support and identify bad hops. Occasionally a second region from the same host solves it. More often, a host switch is the real answer.
