GTA 6 Modded Servers

Modded servers carry more custom content than vanilla: dozens of custom vehicles, custom MLOs, new weapons, rebuilt maps, overhauled handling. They are fun but expensive to run because every player downloads hundreds of MB of custom assets.

What defines a modded server

  • Heavy custom vehicle roster (often 50 to 200 extra cars).
  • Multiple MLOs replacing or adding interiors.
  • Custom weapons and weapon balance.
  • Script overhauls for physics, damage, or economy.
  • A large initial download for first-time players.

The asset delivery problem

Without an asset CDN, every new player downloads 500 MB to 2 GB from your server. At 20 new players per day, that is 40 GB of server bandwidth on content alone. Your hosting is not sized for this.

Fix: asset CDN. Most good hosts include one, or let you plug in Cloudflare R2, BunnyCDN, or similar. See our server customization guide for the full CDN setup.

Hardware profile

For a 64-slot modded server with heavy content:

  • 8 to 12 vCPU.
  • 32 GB RAM.
  • NVMe storage, 500 GB minimum.
  • Asset CDN for content delivery.
  • 1 Gbps port with good peering.

Performance budget

Modded content costs tick rate. Every custom car at 300k polygons adds frame time on clients. Every MLO adds streaming load. Budget your content or your 128-slot server will run like a 64-slot one.

  • Cap custom vehicle polygon count. Quality matters more than quantity.
  • Limit simultaneous MLOs streaming. Only load what players are near.
  • Profile scripts regularly. A bad handler on 50 custom cars multiplies by 50.

Legal landmines

Modded servers are more exposed to copyright issues than vanilla. See our custom vehicles planning guide for the legal considerations around real-world brands.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a GTA 6 modded server?

A server carrying more custom content than vanilla: dozens of custom vehicles, MLOs, weapons, map additions, or script overhauls. Heavier to host and more expensive to maintain.

Why do I need a CDN for a modded GTA 6 server?

Custom content means every player downloads 500 MB to 2 GB of assets on first connect. Without a CDN, your game server delivers those downloads and your bandwidth spirals. CDN separates content delivery from game traffic.

How many custom mods can a GTA 6 server run?

Performance-wise, dozens. Practically, less is more. A tightly curated 30-vehicle, 10-MLO pack outperforms a sprawling 200-vehicle collection on both fun and stability.
