How to Structure GTA 6 Server Admin Teams

Every GTA server eventually needs an admin structure. The default shape (the founder does everything, plus a few trusted friends) works for 20 players and breaks at 50. Here is the structure that scales without becoming a bureaucracy.
The three-tier model
- Moderators. First responders. Handle reports, minor rule enforcement, temp kicks. 6 to 10 for a 64-slot server.
- Admins. Senior staff. Handle escalations, issue bans, review staff decisions. 3 to 5 per server.
- Leadership. Founder and 1 to 3 heads. Set rules, review escalations, handle PR and partnerships. Stays small deliberately.
Below moderators you can add a "support" role for new staff in training. Above leadership there is nothing. Do not invent titles to placate egos.
Role responsibilities
Moderators
- Respond to player reports within 5 minutes during shift.
- Handle in-game rule breaks: warnings, kicks, short bans.
- Escalate pattern problems to admins.
- Log every action to the staff channel.
Admins
- Review moderator actions when contested.
- Issue permanent bans.
- Handle cross-shift consistency (if one moderator is warning and another is banning, that is an admin problem).
- Train new moderators.
Leadership
- Set and revise rules.
- Handle partnership and press.
- Manage server finances.
- Make calls on ambiguous incidents that set precedent.
Shift coverage
Aim for at least one staff member online during peak hours (usually 6pm to midnight in your main timezone). For international communities, a second shift in another timezone is worth the investment. Unmoderated servers feel chaotic even if the rules are good.
Common mistakes
- Promoting based on loyalty instead of judgement. The best moderators are calm under pressure, not just long-time members.
- Too many admins. More than 5 admins on a 64-slot server means inconsistent decisions.
- No written escalation path. "Ask X if you are unsure" breaks when X is offline.
- Burnout without replacement plans. Assume 30% annual turnover on staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many admins does a GTA 6 server need?
For a 64-slot server, 6 to 10 moderators, 3 to 5 admins, and 1 to 3 leadership. Adjust by player count and activity, but small and disciplined beats large and inconsistent.
Should I pay GTA 6 server admins?
Usually no, especially at smaller scales. Most admins volunteer. For larger servers, token payments or Discord Nitro gifts help retention without becoming salary-like obligations.
How do I handle admin burnout?
Rotate roles, promote from within, and assume 30% annual turnover is normal. Build a bench of moderators-in-training so leadership can step back without the whole structure collapsing.
